Why This Electric Road Bike Is Worth the Investment
To live a healthy lifestyle you have to stay physically active and eat healthily. The Trek Domane can definitely help with one of those. Riding a bicycle is one of the best ways to keep your body moving while having fun.
Aside from increasing your strength, joint mobility, and flexibility, cycling also allows you to keep your heart fit, your bones strong and your weight in check.
But if you’re going to make the most out of your cycling experience, it’s definitely worthwhile to invest in a good quality bike. Road bikes are a great option for experienced road cyclists but for those that are newer into the sport or that want a little extra assistance while riding, an electric road bike is one of the smartest options in the market today. An electric road bike gives you more power with “pedal assist and helps you move faster, but still allows you to get in a good workout and stay fit.
When it comes to electric bikes, the Trek Domane+ HP delivers everything that you’d want in your bike.
In this Trek Electric Bike review, we’re going to dive deeper into the features of the Trek Domane+ HP. For the specific specs of the Trek Domane+ HP scroll down to the end of the article or click the button above to head over to Trek Bikes’ Website.
What is the Trek Domane+ HP?
Trek Bicycle is a well known and recognized brand in the cycling community. They’re probably most known for their mountain bikes and mountain biking accessories, but they also make a ton of great road bikes and electric bikes. One of Trek’s best electric road bikes is the Trek Domane+ HP electric road bike which is part of the Trek Domane+ Series. The series includes 6 different electric bikes. I’ll be doing reviews on the rest of the Trek Domane+ bikes in the future, but for now, we’re going to focus on the Trek Domane+ HP.
A year after its successful launch, Trek released the Trek Domane+ HP, a more powerful version of its predecessor, the Domane+ HP, which had the Bosch Performance Cruise motor. The HP boasts of up to 150 miles of range, thanks to its Bosch PowerTube 500Wh and the attachable range boost battery.
This drop-bar Trek electric bike features a carbon frame with IsoSpeed technology that when paired with its stable endurance geometry makes it run faster and last longer on the road.
The Trek Domane+ HP also looks incredibly chic with different color options like matte charcoal/trek black, trek black to radioactive red, gloss purple flip and era white to root beer and decal. The radioactive red is pictured above and is my personal favorite.
You can choose the color combination that you’d like for your bike to suit your personality and lifestyle best.
The Trek Domane+ HP comes in a variety of frame sizes ranging from 52cm to 60cm, so you can choose the best fit for your height and body type.
The main variable that plays into the size frame you should get is your inseam which is measured by standing barefoot with your back against the wall and wearing your cycling shorts.
Then, place a ruler in between your legs to measure from the floor to your crotch like you are sitting on a saddle. From that inseam measurement, you can compare your inseam to the standover height of the frame on the Trek’s website.
What are the features of the Trek Domane+ HP?
The Trek Domane+ HP is the third model to be released under the Domane range and Trek claims that it’s their best one yet. Here are some of its best features:
Bosch Performance Speed Motor
Unlike its predecessor, this electric road bike is designed for athletes and enthusiasts who need speed and power during their rides.
The Bosch performance speed motor is combined with Trek’s Kiox controller to produce a top speed of 28mph with pedal assist. This means that the Trek Domane+ HP is categorized as a “class 3 speed pedelec,” which is more popular in the American market. However, you’ll want to check your local laws to make sure that 28mph isn’t above the speed restrictions for your area.
Bosch Kiox Computer

The Domane+ HP electric bike has an on-board Bosch Kiox display computer that is convenient to use during rides. On the computer, you get a lot of important data. It shows your current speed, the remaining battery life in a percentage, the performance mode your e-bike is in, controls headlights, and more.
Even though it shows a ton of information, Bosch did a great job of keeping the display clean and organized. You’ll be able to find all the information you need at a glance. This way you won’t be distracted from your ride while looking at your computer. I know some cycling computers put way too much information on the screen and you end up looking away from the road for extended periods trying to figure out what you’re reading. This computer doesn’t have that problem.
Bosch PowerTube 500Wh + Range Boost
The Trek Domane+ HP features the latest innovation in Bosch battery sets that has a 500Wh capacity for a longer riding range. You also have the option to purchase a range extender that adds another 500Wh to the battery’s life, so you can reach up to 150 miles. With just the single PowerTube Battery you’ll max out at around 75 miles depending on road conditions, weather, and the total weight of rider and cargo.
Removable Integrated Battery

This electric bike features a one-piece integrated battery and cover that can be easily installed and removed without the need for any tools. This makes it easier to remove your battery for charging, security and transport.
Having a removable battery is especially important if the place where your bike will be stored doesn’t have an outlet for you to charge your bike. If this is the case for you, this bike will allow you to take the battery inside to charge it, which is a great feature for any e-bike.
Sturdy Built
The Trek Domane+ HP looks very similar to the standard Trek Domane which is a non-assist pedal bike. In comparison to the standard Domane, the Domane+ HP is a bit thicker because the frame houses the battery for the e-bike but overall they share remarkably similar features.
One distinction the plus HP has is the new seat mast design that was first introduced with the newer versions of the Domane range. This design ensures a smoother ride and weight reduction for faster speed. The e-bike version also has fully integrated front and rear lights, which are especially useful when you are riding at night. The lights run off the battery of the bike which is great because I always forget to take my lights off to charge them.
IsoSpeed Top Tube
This electric road bike has the new top tube IsoSpeed that helps ensure maximum rider compliance. The IsoSpeed Top Tube is essentially an adjustable shock absorber that’s built into the frame. So, depending on your preferences, you can adjust the stiffness or softness of your ride. This allows you to custom tailor your ride to make it as comfortable as possible for you.
Endurance Geometry
One of the best features of Trek is its endurance geometry which combines science and technique to ensure proper handling, full responsiveness, and optimum control of this eRoad bike through its perfect rider weight bias.
You won’t find a lot of bikes on the market offering technology that gives you this level of stability, performance, and safety in one package.
Additional Tire Clearance

Trek didn’t just design an electric road bike that can ride efficiently. Each part of this e-bike is carefully thought out to ensure maximum performance and possibilities. The Trek Domane+ HP has an additional tire clearance that makes it a great companion no matter where you choose to ride. I haven’t tried this but the additional tire will most likely allow you to use your road bike as more of a electric gravel bike with the right tires.
Carbon Wheels
Everyone loves how light carbon wheels are but no one wants to deal with them getting damaged, especially because carbon fiber wheels are typically very expensive. Luckily when you get carbon wheels through Trek’s Bontrager brand, it comes with a lifetime warranty for the original owner. This is a great way for you to get the performance gains of carbon fiber without the added risk.
What are the Trek Domane+ HP’s specs?
