With gas prices on the rise and the world facing global warming, many people are doing their part to move toward renewable and green energy products. In many parts of the world, the majority of people’s driving is done commuting to and from work. When you have a 10-20+ mile commute to work that starts to add up. Some people even commute 30+ miles every day that’s 60 miles round trip. In a year working 5 days per week, adds up to around 15,000 miles.
What if you could get to work in a reasonable amount of time, in some places it may be even faster than driving due to traffic, without spending money on gas, and without putting miles on your car?
This is where electric vehicles come in! When we mention electric vehicles, everyone immediately thinks of Tesla, and with good reason. Tesla is an industry leader in the innovative field of electric vehicles. However, right now we are going to focus on the best electric bikes for commuting to and from work.
Electric bikes can be an amazing way to save money and get to where you need to go. With the right e-bike, you’ll never have to wonder whether you’ll run out of battery. There are e-bikes that can ride 50, 100, or even 200 miles. I couldn’t imagine needing an e-bike to take me 200 miles, but if needed there’s an e-bike that can do that. If you end up getting an e-bike that doesn’t have a 200-mile range and you happen to misjudge your battery life, you can always pedal your way home, just like a regular bike.

1. Delfast Electric Commuter Bike Review
Delfast Commuter Bike Features
- 200 Mile Range
- 50 MPH Max Speed (where legal)
- 298 LBS Load Capacity
- Front and Rear Lights
The Delfast E-bike is one of the best e-bikes on the market in almost every category but the price also reflects its superiority. So, if you’re looking for the best e-bike to use for commuting, this one is definitely it. However, if you’re looking for a reasonably priced e-bike to use for commuting, I would look at the other options on this list.
Riding Range
The Delfast E-bike has the longest range in the world. You can ride a Delfast e-bike for over 200 miles and that’s without using pedal assist. It could probably go even further with pedal assist on. With this e-bike, you’ll almost never have to worry about running out of battery or getting stuck pedaling home when you’re tired.
Max Speed
The Delfast E-bike has a max speed of 50 miles per hour. Due to the long riding range and the max speed of this e-bike, there’s much debate on whether this electric bike can even be called a bike. Some call it a motorcycle and others call it a moped but the fact remains that you can pedal it, so, it’s also a bicycle.
Riding an e-bike at 50 mph is illegal in many places. So, the bike features multiple riding modes that you can use to adhere to local laws and speed restrictions. In most states, 26 mph is the max speed an e-bike is allowed to go on public roads and bike paths. In those areas, you’re only supposed to use higher speeds off-road/on private property.
LCD Display
This bike features a cool full-color display and you can add on a phone holder for an additional charge. The display is basically like you’re in a car. It has a speedometer, tachometer, shows battery life, your pedal assist level, and more. This bike also has an alarm system so that it can’t be stolen. This is just another reason it’s hard to call this electric bike a bike and not a moped or motorcycle. It even has a push to start/stop like a modern car.
Battery Life and Warranty
In addition to the high performance of the Delfast E-Bikes, it also comes with amazing customer service. The bike comes with a lifetime warranty. They’re confident that their products will last the test of time. Their bike batteries are rated to last 3,000 charge cycles, which ends up being 600,000 Miles since 1 charge can last 200 miles. I doubt anyone will ride their electric bike 600,000 miles.
This is an amazing e-bike for all-around use including commuting to work. If you’re interested in learning more about this electric commuter bike, click the button below for more info.
2. Addmotor Motan Step-Thru Electric Commuter Bike Review
Addmotor Motan E-Bike Features
- 55-65 Mile Range
- 28 MPH Max Speed
- 300 LBS Load Capacity
- Front and Rear Lights
- Rear Cargo Rack Included
Riding Range
The Addmotor Motan E-bike has a great riding range of 55-65 miles. This should be enough for most commuters to get to and maybe even from work. If you live in the suburbs of a big city like LA, this may not be enough but if you live within the city, this is probably the perfect amount of range to get to and from work on a full charge without too much worry of running out of a charge early.
Max Speed
The Motan Commuter E-bike has a max speed of 28 mph, this is typically the max speed that a pedal-assist e-bike can go on public roads and trails. However, it depends on your state, so make sure to consult your local laws.
Since this is the max speed, that you can typically ride your e-bike on a commute, this can be a great less expensive option in comparison to the Delfast Bike listed above.
LCD Display
The Addmotor Motan features a nice LCD display. The display covers all the essential information and is a great size. You can at a glance see how much battery you have left, your speed, pedal assist level, and more.
Having an LCD display is important on an e-bike because you want to know the speed you’re going for safety and you always want to know whether or not you’re going to run out of battery. No one wants to be on a casual commute to work and end up being late because their battery dies or you could show up sweaty because you had to pedal most of the way to work.
Battery Life & Warranty
Addmotor offers a 1-year warranty on their bikes including electrical components and mechanical parts. The specific components are listed on their site. They don’t cover wear and tear, robbery, or theft. They are mainly looking at manufacturers’ defects. Also, they don’t cover second owners, so if you buy this bike used, you would not be able to access the warranty.

Turboant Thunder T1 Features
- 35-60 Mile Range
- 19.9 MPH Max Speed
- 264 LBS Load Capacity
- Front and Rear Lights
The Turboant Thunder T1 E-bike is a good electric commuter bike. Turboant is known for their electric scooters but they have 2 pretty solid e-bikes too. In this review, we’ll be focusing on the Turboant Thunder T1 but they also have a good folding e-bike called the Turboant Swift S1 Folding E-bike.
Riding Range
The Turboant T1 has a riding range of 35-60 miles. The range will vary based on the terrain, weight of the rider + cargo, wind, and other variables that can cause resistance but as long as your job is less than 30 miles away this will be a great option for you. Just don’t forget to charge your e-bike while you’re at work so you can make it all the way home without needing to ride normally.
Max Speed
The max speed of the Turboant T1 is 19.9 Miles per hour. It comes with 7 gears, which makes it possible to ride at a good speed over most terrain. This bike isn’t as fast as the Delfast Top but it’s a great option especially if you’ll be riding in a state that doesn’t allow you to ride faster. There are not many places that allow you to ride an e-bike at 50 miles per hour, but if you’re lucky enough to live in one of these places, there are better options than this e-bike.
LCD Display
The LCD display on the Turboant Thunder T1 isn’t a full-color display but it gives you a handful of information. It displays the current speed, trip distance, trip time, max speed, average speed, and which pedal assist level you’re on. You can also change the pedal assist level on the display to 1 of 5 different levels.
The display on the Turboant T1 gives you all the relevant information for a safe ride. It also shows how much of the battery is left in the top left corner.
Battery Life & Warranty
It features a Samsung 14 Ah battery and a 750 W motor. The battery size is essentially the gas tank of your e-bike. Having a bigger battery size typically means you can ride the bike a longer distance. The battery takes between 3 and 7 hours to reach a full charge. The motor can pull a max load of 264 lbs.
Turboant offers a 1-year warranty for defects on their electric bikes. Their warranty is pretty strict though. You can request a refund only if there’s a defect in the first 7 days. If a defect is found in the first 30 days, then you can apply for a repair or replacement. If it’s more than 30 days but less than the year, then they will only allow a repair. The warranty doesn’t cover wear and tear, improper use, collisions, etc. It mainly just covers manufacturer defects.
The Turboant T1 is a good electric commuter bike for short-distance commutes, if you would like to learn more, click the button below.

The Max Speed of the Charge E-bikes Comfort model is 20 mph. This is the perfect speed for most states in the United States. At this speed, you should meet all legal restrictions in your area, but you should double-check your local laws to make sure.

The LCD Display on the Comfort E-bike is limited, but it covers the essentials that you need. It shows the power assist level and allows you to easily change the level, it shows the remaining battery capacity and real-time speed.
Battery Life & Warranty
The Charge Comfort E-Bike Comes with a 418 WH Li-ion Battery with Samsung Cells. One cool feature of the battery is that it is removable, so you can take the battery inside to charge it rather than needing to find a plug near your bike. This can be good if you’re riding to and from work because the bike racks at work may not be near an outlet or they may be in a place where you don’t want to leave your charger. The battery also has a riding range of approx. 50 miles.

Ancheer e-bikes are great budget e-bikes. They perform well at a reasonable price.
Riding Range
The Ancheer Step-Thru Commuter E-bike features a 12.5Ah battery that allows for a riding range of up to 45 miles. Your battery size is the main factor in how far an e-bike can go on a single charge. The size of the battery is essentially the size of your gas tank. Some E-bike brands will sell different size batteries to increase the ride distance, but Ancheer isn’t one of them.
Max Speed
This commuter bike is a little slower than the others on this list, it has a max speed of 15 mph. That means at 15mph and a max range of 45 miles, you can get about 3 hours of ride time on this e-bike. It may not be rocket ship speeds, but 15 mph is more than enough to get you to and from work. The average cyclist rides around 10-15 mph so you’ll be going just as fast as most people riding their bikes and without putting in much effort.
LCD Display
This e-bike comes with a very basic display, it shows you your power and what pedal-assist mode you’re in. The Ancheer Commuter Bike comes with 3 different pedal modes. The 3 modes are e-bike mode, assisted bicycle mode, and normal bike pedal mode.
Battery Life & Warranty
The Ancheer cruiser bike features a 12.5 Ah Removable Lithium-Ion Battery. This allows you to charge the battery inside rather than find a spot to plug up your e-bike. It takes 6-8 hours to fully charge the battery.

Electric Commuter Bike Buyers’ Guide
When it comes down to E-bikes, there are a ton of different items you could use as your comparison point. Since we’re focused on commuting to and from work in this guide, I chose what I feel is most important for a safe commute, reliable, and comfortable commute.
In this guide, I’m going to cover which aspects of an e-bike I feel are most important for commuting and why.
Front and Rear Lights
In the list above, I mentioned under the features section whether or not the e-bike had lights, but since all of them have lights I didn’t bother putting a section for each saying they have front and rear lights and talking about them. However, if you choose your e-bike from somewhere else, this is a feature that you want to check.
When commuting to and from work it’s likely that you’ll have to ride in the street or early mornings before the sun is fully up. If you are riding in the street or when it’s dark out, then you want to have lights on your bike so you can be seen. Having a bike without lights is dangerous. If you find an e-bike that you like but it doesn’t have lights on it, you can always buy a bike light for it, but having a built-in light that runs off the bike battery is more convenient because it’s easy to forget to recharge each light individually.
Riding Range
Having a light is important when it comes to safety, but having the proper riding range is important so that you can make it to work on a single charge. When starting off your workday you don’t want to have your battery die and actually have to pedal at full power to get to work. No one wants to be the sweaty guy coming into work. Having an e-bike makes it so you can ride a bike without breaking a sweat.
So, you want to make sure that the riding range is high enough that you can get to work. If you won’t have someplace to charge your electric commuter bike you have 2 options. You can get an e-bike that can make it a round trip on 1 charge or you can get an e-bike that has a removable battery that you can take into your job to charge.
Both of these options are great but depending on your price range, the removable battery may be a better option. The Delfast commuter e-bike listed above has an amazing riding range. With that bike, you’d have no problems getting to and from work, but the price reflects that. It cost way more than the others on this list.
Max Speed
Max Speed is another area that I feel is very important for a commuter bike because you need to be able to make it work on time. You don’t want to get an e-bike that will take you 3 hours to get to work, that defeats the purpose, at that point, you could take public transit or drive your car if needed.
You want a bike that will get you there on time and at a reasonable pace. In some cities, riding a bike could actually get you to work faster than taking a car since cars will get stuck in traffic. On a bike, you could split lanes (if legal), ride on the sidewalk, or find a bike path that gets you to work. Knowing your max speed can help you judge how long it’ll take you to get to and from work.
LCD Display
The LCD Display is important for the same reason that the riding range is important. Having an LCD display that allows you to see the battery life, your speed, etc. will keep you from getting stranded or being late to work. Knowing how much battery is left on your bike will keep you from having to pedal to work and/or being late to work.
Also, on a bike, it can be hard to tell how fast you’re going. Having the display will let you know how fast you need to ride to make it on time to work. If you’re anything like me when I drive to work, I know where I need to be at certain times to be on time and the speed I need to go to make it on time. So, having a display that gives you the relevant information will allow you to be on time more consistently.
Warranty and Battery Life
I feel that having a good warranty on your electric commuter bike is important because it is your transportation to work. If it breaks down, for some, they may not have another way to get to work. So, you want to make sure the bike is reliable and if it does break, you can get it fixed quickly.
This also goes hand in hand with the bike’s battery life. Although not all of the bikes on this list disclosed how many life cycles their battery has. From the e-bikes that I’ve looked at, a good average life cycle estimate would be about 300-500 life cycles. This means that on an e-bike that gets 30 miles on a full charge, the battery should last for between 9,000 miles and 15,000 miles.
Some bikes are way higher like the Delfast bike. It’s good for 3,000 battery cycles which total 600,000 miles. That’s why they’re willing to offer a lifetime warranty. I’d be surprised if anyone makes it 600,000 miles on a bike!
Conclusion
There are a ton of commuter e-bikes on the market that you can choose from but I hope this list has helped you narrow down your options. E-bikes are a great way to help the environment and reduce your expenses. Having a good commuter e-bike will save you hundreds if not thousands of dollars per year. It’s an investment, but it’s an investment that will give you a good conscience and a monetary savings/return over the long run. If you have any questions, feel free to post them in the comments and we’ll get back to you ASAP.
